Breweries

Alaskan Brewing Co.
In 1986, 28-year-olds Marcy and Geoff Larson reignited that tradition when they opened the Alaskan Brewing Company, the 67th brewery in the country and the first brewery in Juneau since Prohibition. Alaskan beers reflect many of the same characteristics of beers that were brewed here during the gold rush era. From the historically based Alaskan Amber recipe to alder-smoked malts and Sitka spruce tips, Alaskan beers reflect Juneau's local brewing history and innovation.

Lagunitas Brewing Company
From our earliest days of striving to make consistently good beer, and instead making beer that ranged from vile, to barely drinkable, to wonderful, to elegant, to questionable-at-best. From being castigated by our West Marin neighbors to finally suffering an 'eviction' by our West Marin septic system. From landing in the welcoming arms of Petaluma, and actually getting our beer into bottles, onto the streets, and into the hands of sympathatic beer geeks, to steadily losing less money each month. From all this and more, Lagunitas Brewing Company is emerging as a battle-tested brewery capable of making great beer out of goat's milk, brambles, and asphalt on the surface of the Moon, if need be. As the poet once said, 'Where, but for the grace of God and the kindness of strangers, go I'. Where go we indeed, whatever that means.

#1 Belgo IPA | Belgian Style IPA
7%, IBU: 60
When we set out to brew, we use imagination and salvation to guide us- not necessarily style guidelines. It’s the Belgian way. So, Ameri-Belgo and IPA both being styles, the branding begged for New Belgium whimsy to liven things up. Hmmm Belgo sounds like a Belgian disco. Hops like to party. Next thing you know, we bust out a disco-ball and brewers started groovin. Hops started hoppin. Add in an authentic Trappist yeast strain and the place brewed into a frenzy of citrus hoppy folly.

Spring forward with this refreshing seasonal ale. Notes of toasted malt up front, with a bright and crisp Northwest hop finish, it s a session beer that everyone can enjoy!
Like many of Ninkasi beers this is an ale more than a specific style though we put it in the NW Pale category. A light toasted malt flavor is more reminescent of a British Pale but the hops are bright and very NW. Flavoful and easy to drink!

Sierra Nevada Brewing Co.
The idea of starting a brewery was something I spent years dreaming about before we actually got started in 1980. As an avid hiker, I spent many days climbing the Sierra Nevada’s for inspiration, and it was there that the grandeur of the mountains inspired me to think big. I decided I wanted my brewery to do two things well: the first was to make big, flavorful beers that stood out from the mainstream the way the Sierras towered over California. Back then, flavorful beers were almost unheard of; but I felt if we used the purest ingredients to make the finest quality ales, people would catch on. The second thing I wanted to do was minimize our environmental impact. The Sierras had been my inspiration for the brewery, so I knew we needed to do our part to preserve them and the planet. We began brewing in a small, hand-built brew-house, pieced together with recycled stainless steel and dairy equipment. That basic setup made the importance of top-quality ingredients even more obvious. We decided that showcasing the unique flavors and aromatics of whole-cone hops would be an important distinction for our beers. We felt the subtle nuances from hop bine to hop bine made our beers more interesting than those made with the uniformity of pelletized hops and extracts. Back in the early days, few people could appreciate the bold flavors of beers like ours-made with 100% whole-cone hops. Today, people everywhere enjoy the experience of drinking our hoppy, full-flavored beer, and now-three decades later-we use more whole-cone hops than any brewer in the world. For us, every Sierra Nevada beer is a labor of love-a combination of the finest ingredients, thirty years of experience and the quality, craftsmanship, and flavor that can only come from a hand-made, all-natural beer. We thank you for sharing this adventure.
